The 30Nodikitebar

A little taste of Italy

If you´re looking for a bar with soul, where you can enjoy a friendly atmosphere, good music and the best wines and beers in one of Palma´s most beautiful squares, head for the 30nodikitebar.

Every time you go, you can be assured of a warm welcome but there is always something new going on. From reggae on Thursdays, African music twice a month, rumba, or electronic and funky sounds. Sit back with a cocktail, chill out with a beer, maybe enjoy some fine Italian fare, meet new friends or just soak up the ambience.

Bar owner Ermanno Sguoto has many years of experience working as a barman in some of Italy´s most prestigious tourism spots – and you can tell he has a real passion and flair for it.

Instead of the usual background music, Ermanno has a collection of more than 500 albums so the mood could change from black music during the day to jazz, funk, r ‘n’ b or chill out.

In the evenings, customers are invited to enjoy a variety of special events. The weekend starts on Thursday evenings, when there is reggae and jazz by the Idealistic sound system while Saturdays take on electronic, retro and funky beats with DJ Rosebud. If you go on Fridays you can be guaranteed a good night out, either dancing to rumba or on the first and last Friday of every month, you can enjoy special African nights with music by Omar Challo Yange, who plays the violin-cello, guitar and percussion instruments while his wife, who is a very good cook, serves typical dishes from Senegal, for just 15 euros from 20.00. It is essential to book for dinner on these African nights as they are proving very popular.

In the cosy interior, designed by Ermanno, is an art exhibition, with a featured artist, which changes every few weeks.

Soak up the atmosphere and the sounds while enjoying your favourite drink, maybe a Spanish or Italian beer, or a glass of your favourite Italian wine. The 30nodikitebar also does a fine line in cocktails. How about a Spritz, a typical aperitif from Venice, which is a delicious blend of Aperol, Prosecco or cava and sparkling water? Ermanno, who is originally from Padua, near Venice and the Italian lakes, has imported some of his home country´s finest foods and wines for us to enjoy in Palma. Ermanno has taken the popular Spanish concept of tapas and adapted it to Italian food, especially its fine selections of meats and cheeses. The Tabla Italiana may include cheeses such as Parmigianino biologico, 36 months old; ubriaco al baroco; nero made with the milk of bufala, 12 months old; mozzarella di bufala del Lazio. A selection of hams - mortadella di bologna igp, salame di felino and coppa di parma  – have also been carefully selected by Ermanno, who is rightly proud of the top products he is importing from Italy. Food is served from 11.00 until 23.00.

If you can, grab a seat on the terrace to admire the architecture and soak up the historic atmosphere of the Plaza Drassanas. This is one of the oldest parts of Palma and was originally under water before becoming the site of one of Palma´s most important shipyards until the early 19th century. A statue of Jaume Ferrer, a celebrated 14th century Mallorcan mariner, stands tall and proud in the centre of the square.

During the day, you can watch sports on the plasma TV – especially extreme sports or MotoGP for example.

As well as his love for Italy, Ermanno´s other great passion is kite-surfing and he also runs his own school, teaching people on the island about the extreme sport. But don´t feel you have to be a surfer to be welcomed at the 30nodikitebar. The bar enjoys a great mix of clients, including yachties – from multi-millionaire owners to the deckhands, thanks to its great position near to the marina, and all nationalities including French, Italian and South African.

One thing you can be sure of is that you will have a great time listening to good music and enjoying fine foods, drinks and cocktails in the heart of Palma´s historic old town.

From Paseo de Born, head south until you get to the roundabout, take the first road into Calle Apuntadors, turn left and you will find Plaza Drassanas. From the marina, midway between the Parc de la Mar and Avenida Argentina is Calle Consolat, head up here and you will come to the Plaza.
