IN THE WORLD OF SUSHI
In the coastline of picturesque El Molinar we can try the most exquisite Japanese dishes, elaborated according to secret recipes. In the restaurant Shogun you can also try some modern dishes such as all kind of tempuras (fish or seafood coated in batter) or even battered chicken.
After the great success of Shogun in Camilo Jose Cela Street in Palma city centre, since March 2008 aficionados of sushi and maki can visit the new Shogun restaurant in the beautiful area of El Molinar to enjoy views of the beach and sea landscapes just metres from the restaurant´s terraces. The owner of this modern and chic place, Pedro Bellafont has recently launched Kuroyama, a Japanese tavern where clients can have their favourite sushi in a less formal way, listening to music and chatting with friends.
However, it is Shogun restaurant where the elegance and authenticity of the East can be found. Shogun chef, Deo Ramos, an expert in Asiatic dishes, assured us that the most popular Japanese cuisine is sushi served in this restaurant as a cocktail of sashimi (raw seafood cut into pieces), nigiri (sushi made with toppings laid with hand-formed mounds of rice) and maki (rolled sushi). Together with the cook Julian Muñoz Martínez, who is adept in the secrets of Japanese cuisine, they offer an exquisite menu with a variety of the most distinguished dishes. Those who think that in Japanese restaurants you can only eat raw fish and seafood will be astonished by the quantity of cooked dishes. Tempura, a classic Japanese dish of deep fried battered vegetables and seafood enjoys great popularity as well. You can have Tempura Moriawase, battered fish or Ebi Tempura, battered prawns, among others.
For those who cannot eat anything except chicken, Shogun offers tori, deep fried chicken in a Japanese-style sauce or katsu, battered chicken.
For those with a sweet tooth, Ronaldo Lobo, the manager of Shogun restaurant recommends figs ofukuru with fresh cream or Maccha Ke-Ti, green tea cake with pine nuts and fresh cream.
Visiting Shogun transports you to the land of blossoming cherry trees, rituals and tradition that form part of today´s reality. When you look at small rolls of maki so precisely decorated that they seem like a work of art, you can feel the Japanese spirit of perfection and harmony. You can find it all in Shogun restaurants where dishes are prepared according to old recipes of the Sato family, Pedro Bellafont`s partners, with the same precision and love for exquisite food.
