Number8

A NEW BEGINNING

New in town, Nº 8 restaurant promotes healthy and fresh food, high quality service and modern interiors, to bring a new dimension to dining out in Santa Ponsa.
In China eight is a lucky number as it sounds like the word ‘prosper’ or ‘wealth’ in Chinese. For Buddhists there are eight noble paths and this number means the beginning.
Julian Britton and his wife Alex opened this venue in July, which is reminiscent of the chic and cosmopolitan restaurants of Palma rather than the pile-‘em-high joints familiar in tourist areas such as Santa Ponsa.
Nº 8 restaurant is in Santa Ponsa’s main street. Although it does not have sea views it is just two minutes from the beach. It is a perfect place to have fresh fruit cocktails in the summer and a mouth-watering steak on a colder winter evening. The menu is not extensive, however, clients can be sure that all products are of the highest quality, vegetables and fruits are always fresh and the chef, Paul Drain, takes care of the originality of the dishes and high standard of the service.
All year round we can have dinner at Nº 8 choosing from the daily menu that features lighter dishes such as sandwiches in many incarnations (wraps, pittas, rustic bread). There are also sweet and savoury crepes and, of course, delicious salads. The evening menu is also an inviting option. Enjoy the breeze, chill-out music and some integral dishes such as battered fish with pea puree and tartar sauce. Julian assured us that the batter used in all dishes are home-made by the chef that gives a special touch to Nº 8 dishes.
Residents and tourists come to the venue to try the famous gourmet burgers, which are handmade and chargrilled. The meat comes from 100% prime cuts of beef or chicken breast. You can also have a vegetarian burger, with chickpeas and lentils.
Once you have visited Nº 8 you will always come back to try one of the delicious desserts, all prepared by Paul. Bread and butter pudding, chocolate brownie or banoffee pie are some of the best English desserts served on the Mallorcan coast.
In summer (that can sometimes last until December on the island) the clients can enjoy their dinner on the wooden terrace. When it gets colder the glass door is being closed and suddenly we are getting into a warm, cosy and spacious lounge designed with style and creativity. Paul, the Scottish chef has no secrets from you, there is an open kitchen so you can see (if you really want to) how your dish is being prepared. The design was chosen by the owners and it shows their sense of aesthetics, the search for practicality and comfort in the interior design. The modern and minimalist ambience makes Nº 8 restaurant one of the stylish venues in the area and great reviews from guests are evidence of the place’s popularity.
In wintertime you are invited not only for dinner. At this time of year, more than ever we need exercises and beauty treatments. N º 8 restaurant has the answer. In the downstairs lounge a wellness centre is going to be opened. So you can meet up with your friends for a stretch or tone classes and then have a delicious dinner upstairs.
Julian and Alex have been living on Mallorca for about seven years, always in Santa Ponsa, which they think is really beautiful. They are enthusiastic about their new adventure and really professional trying to offer exclusiveness and elegance in the resort. As Julian says, it does not matter where you are, if you are good enough you will attract people. There are a few restaurants in Mallorca, often in far-away villages where clients will drive kilometres to have dinner or supper knowing they are in a very special place. Nº 8 restaurant soon can become one of those.
