The treasure island of Formentera boasts many attractions to lure daytrippers and holidaymakers from its crystal clear waters, perfect for diving, stunning unspoilt countryside and quality arts and crafts. Gecko Beach Club is on Migjorn Beach, in the calming area of Ca Marí on Formentera. It has direct access to about 150 metres of stunning beachfront, making it the ideal place for a drink, something to eat, a massage in the sunshine and a relaxing sunbed on the sand.

It also boasts extensive gardens, an outside restaurant with teak decking, a chiringuito beach bar and sunbeds.

The only way on to Formentera is by boat as the island does not have its own airport because of its small size, so it still has that isolated ìsland` feel. Ferries sail frequently every day from Ibiza, taking around 30 minutes while other visitors like to bring their own boat, or to charter a vessel, to explore the Balearics. Gecko Beach Club is the perfect spot for them to drop anchor and enjoy its relaxing ambience, by day or night.

The mood changes according to the hour. Breakfast can be enjoyed in a stunning setting, just metres from the water´s edge. The morning can be spent exploring the island, or wandering around the gardens before relaxing on the sun loungers in front of the sea.

People come from all over the island, as well as Ibiza, to enjoy lunch or dinner, thanks to the reputation of the chef, Thomas Wilden, whose talents were rewarded with two Michelin stars at a previous restaurant. At this time of year, he will be serving light summer fare, combining classic Mediterranean classics with a few Asian twists.

A mouth-watering pirate-themed children´s menu has also been created to cater to the needs of the younger clientele. A nice touch which reinforces the venue´s desire to make all guests feel very welcome - regardless of their age or needs. There is also a
children´s playground where they can let off steam behind the hotel, away from the water.

After lunch, maybe a massage is on the cards? The club has its own experienced masseuse who can ease away any aches and pains to leave you feeling relaxed and ready for what lies ahead.

Gecko Beach Club is owned by Justin Pardon and Dino Gillibrand, directors of GC Property based in Mallorca, which specialises in properties on Mallorca, Ibiza and Formentera. They have plans to build up the venue – both in terms of renovation and reputation – to make it the premier spot on the island. The owners are aiming to extend the season in Formentera to bring guests over to enjoy the island for more months of the year.

There are 27 charming rooms, all with terraces with sea or garden views. Triple rooms are available and children are welcome. This year, the rooms were extensively refurbished and redecorated to complement the ambience and cool feel to the Gecko Beach Club.

However, the hotel is going through a major transformation during the winter. All rooms will have new bathrooms, decked terracing, air-conditioning, televisions and mini bars. Some rooms are being knocked through to create three new suites with huge roof terraces and their own private Jacuzzis – what could be cooler than to sip cocktails while relaxing in your Jacuzzi and drinking to views across the gardens and the ever-changing blues of the Mediterranean.

The hotel will reopen by Easter next year with reservations being taken from January.

Formentera is a real island in that it does not have an airport and is only accessible by sea. Thanks to this isolation, the island is a tranquil, well-preserved place virtually unspoilt by human hand.

It has become a refuge and source of inspiration for the variety of talented artists and craftspeople who have made it their home.
