THOUSANDS OF ENTHUSIASTS ENJOYED A DAY OUT AT THE PALMA BOAT SHOW WHERE THEY COULD TAKE LOOK AROUND SOME OF THE SMARTEST NEW YACHTS ENJOYING THEIR PREMIERE AT THE PRESTIGIOUS VENUE
Palma's old port provided a floating stage for some of the world's top boat makers, from spectacular superyachts to finely-crafted traditional fishing vessels.
The boats anchored in the harbor, with the Gothic cathedral providing an impressive backdrop, gleamed in the brilliant sunshine as the crowds took a look around the vessels and stalls selling boating accessories from clothes for yachters to deep sea fishing rods.
The largest vessel on show was the Johnson 105, designed by British naval architect Bill Dixon. The five-million-euro superyacht has four double en-suite cabins, a master stateroom and crew quarters.
Marlin Marine Services hosted a champagne party to showcase the designer-clad powerboat, the Fjord 40 Open, which has an impressive decked area at the rear for dining and soaking up the rays.
The more traditional-looking Menorquin boats also turned heads as these classic wooden Llauts are suitable for family fun or a spot of fishing.
Fairline South Mallorca, Fairline North Mallorca and Fairline Cala D'Or joined forces to bring an impressive 10 boats to the show, including its fastest vessel, the award-winning Fairline Targa 38 sports cruiser.
As well as the newest boats to cruise the Mediterranean this summer, the recently-restored Cala Millor impressed visitors, including groups of schoolchildren. The Cala Millor was built in Palma in 1942 for Naviera Mallorquina, which used it to transport all types of products between the Balearics and the Peninsula. Now restored to its former glory, the wooden vessel and its original components will be available for charters and will take part in the Jovens per la mar project whereby young people can get to know about their country's historic boats and learn about the sea.
Motor yachts and traditional sailing boats, including a fine line-up from Fairline, Fine Yachts, Princess, Fjord, Sunseeker and Princess pedigrees ensured the 25th Palma boat show was a resounding success.
The boating and marine sports sector brings in more than 500 million euros to the Balearics each year.
A special event was held which provided to be a real pleasure for those who appreciate fast and distinctive sports cars.
Thousands of visitors enjoyed the finest fare which Mallorca has to offer during the most important gastronomic event in the Balearic Islands cuisine calendar.
